Carol J. Nabbefeld

Carol Jane Nabbefeld, age 91, of Platteville, WI passed away peacefully with her children Craig and Karen at her side, on Monday, June 6, 2016, at Ingleside Manor, Mount Horeb. Carol was born on July 12, 1924 in Madison, WI, the daughter of Vivian Arthur and Lorraine Drury.

Carol had many jobs during her lifetime from working at the family department store, The Nobby Shoppe, to her final successful profession as a Health Sciences Librarian at the University of Wisconsin Medical Library in Madison.

After her retirement, she moved back to Platteville to be near her family members there. She especially wanted to be close to her deeply beloved sister, Helen.

Survivors include her sister, Helen Heiser Napp; her daughter, Karen Wells Laszewski; her son, Craig J Nabbefeld; and nine grandchildren & fourteen great-grandchildren.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Barbara A Martens; and her brother, Dean Drury. Her first husband, S. Sgt. Harry O. Wells, Jr was KIA in WWII and her second husband, William G. Nabbefeld, Jr passed away many years ago.

Following Carol's explicit instructions, there was no visitation or funeral services. Private family graveside services will be held at a later date in the Calvary Cemetery in Platteville. Martin Schwartz Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Platteville is assisting the family.

In lieu of plants or flowers, a Carol J Nabbefeld Memorial Fund has been established.

James Nalepinksi

Nancy J. Nalepinksi

Nancy J. Nalepinski, age71, passed away on July 27, 2011 after a long illness. She was born in Prairie du Chien, WI on February 20, 1940 to Bernie & Janis (Jamison) Willkomm.

After graduation from Cassville High School in 1958, she attended UW-Platteville where she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in education in 1962. It is there that she met and fell in love with her future husband, Jim.

She began her teaching career in Monroe where she taught English and Spanish. She later became a stay-at-home mom to her three children. When the youngest child started school, she returned to teaching at the Lancaster Pre-School based at the United Methodist Church and then became its director, where she stayed for fourteen years.

After her retirement, she returned to UW-Platteville and earned her Masters degree in counseling in 1996. She worked as a guidance counselor for the Catholic School System in Dubuque, Iowa and then worked for the Bureau for the Blind. She also spent some time working the phones at Lands End.

Her favorite pastimes included knitting, theatre, her Red Hatters Group, the Cubs, prayer group, and most of all, spending time with her friends and family, especially her grandchildren (Sonya, Claire, Grayson, Danna, Drew, Nicholas, Gabriella and Parker).

She was a long time member of both the Lancaster United Methodist Church and the Lancaster Community Players. In her time here, she touched many, many lives. She never met a person she didnt like. She will be greatly missed.

Nancy is survived by her husband Jim, three children, Andy (Tara), Julie (Dave) Lenzendorf, Wendy (Scott) Klicko, 8 grandchildren and five brothers, Bruce (Carole), Wayne, David, Jeff (J.P.) and Shawn.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral Services were held on Sunday, July 31, 2011, at 2:00 p.m. at United Methodist Church in Lancaster with Pastor Barbara Cook officiating. Private family burial will be held at a later date. Family and friends called on Saturday, July 30, 2011, from 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at Schwartz Funeral Home in Lancaster and on Sunday from 1:00 p.m. until time of services at the church.

Melvin M. Nechvatal

Melvin M. Nechvatal, age 91, of Lancaster, died peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, July 14, 2013. He was born on February 26, 1922, in Highland, the son of Matt and Mary (Melkas) Nechvatal. Melvin was raised on the family farm in Montfort. He later moved to San Diego, CA, and served his country in the United States Navy. It was during this time that he met the love of his life of sixty-seven years, Kathy, who survives him. They were united in marriage on March 5, 1946, and moved to Kansas City where he attended the Kansas City Watchmakers School for two years. They moved back to Lancaster where Melvin practiced his watchmakers skills until retiring in 2011. In 1963, he also earned a degree in camera repair, which he did from a shop in his home. In October of 1961, Melvin and Kathy took over ownership of the Pine Grove Motel, which they owned until 1978.

Survivors include his wife, Kathy; their four children: Dennis (Mary Bero), Fae (Greg Niglis) Steven (Linda), and Matt; six grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, July 20, 2013, at 10:30 at St. Clement Catholic Church in Lancaster with Father William Seipp officiating. Burial was in St. Clement Cemetery, Lancaster. Family and friends called on Friday, July 19, 2013, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at St. Clement Catholic Church in Lancaster and on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until time of services.

Marta E. Neises

Marta E. "Julie" Neises, age 80, of Cassville died on Wednesday, April 16, 2008, at Mercy Medical Center in Dubuque, Iowa. She was born on April 10, 1928, in Essen, Germany, the daughter of Herbert and Martha (Heinrich) Weihs. On November 7, 1953, she was united in marriage to Fredrick J. Neises in Nuremberg, Germany. After their marriage, the couple traveled as Fredrick was in the military. The couple relocated to the United States, living in Oklahoma, Virginia, Kansas and Florida before moving to Grant County in 1963. Marta was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church in Cassville and enjoyed flowers, shopping, playing cards and Bingo.

Survivors include her son, Michael J. (Leslie) Neises, Sierra Vista, AZ; four grandchildren: Corinne, Chase, Kristie, and Katrina; two step-grandchildren: Lauran and James; nephews, Dita Monka and Herbert Monka.

Marta was preceded in death by her husband, Fredrick on September 5, 1996, and her parents and siblings.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, April 19, 2008, at St. Charles Catholic Church in Cassville at 11:00 a.m. with Father John Norder officiating. Burial was in St. Marys Cemetery, Bloomington. Friends called on Saturday, April 19, 2008, from 9:00 a.m. until time of services at the church.

Elaine Nelson

Elaine Carol Nelson, age 70, of Cassville, passed away Friday, January 2, 2015 at Gunderson Lutheran Hospital in La Crosse.

Elaine loved spending time with her family and going to her grandchildren's ball games and concerts. Elaine enjoyed the outdoors, bowling, and playing cards.

Elaine is survived by her husband, Marlyn "Mike" of Cassville; nine children; Sheila (Rudy) Young of La Crosse, Tami (John) Braaten of Langdon, ND, Todd (Deanne) of Fairchild, Scott (Maria) of Lakewood, OH, Shane of Cassville, Marlon of La Crosse, Eric of La Crosse, Tara (Kenny) Bauer of Potosi, & Michelle (Kevin) Bauer of Onalaska; her mother, Izora Hollister of Osseo; 19 grandchildren; sisters, Peggy and Rose Hollister; and her brothers, Walter, Paul, Henry, & Norman Hollister.

She was preceded in death by her father, Forrest Hollister; and two sisters, Sally Gonzalez & Lois Hollister.

A Memorial Visitation was held from 1 to 4 pm on Saturday, January 10, 2015, at Martin Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Cassville. In lieu of flowers, memorials may go to the Elaine Nelson Memorial Fund

Marlyn Nelson

Marlyn "Mike" A. Nelson, age 79, of Cassville, passed away Friday, July 24th, 2015 at Hillview Nursing Home in La Crosse. Mike was born on March 17, 1936 in Price, WI, a son of Gaylord Sr. and Adeline (Buend) Nelson.

Mike served in the U.S. Army. He toured the states as a tour bus driver and truck driver. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling, and playing cards. A fond family memory is how he was a kid at heart playing right along with them, and his many stories.

Mike is survived by his nine children; Sheila (Rudy) Young of La Crosse, Tami (John) Braaten of Langdon, ND, Todd (Deanne) of Fairchild, Scott (Maria) of Lakewood, OH, Shane of Cassville, Marlon of La Crosse, Eric of La Crosse, Tara (Kenny) Bauer of Potosi, & Michelle (Kevin) Bauer of Onalaska; 19 grandchildren; brothers, Donavan(Betty), George(Bonnie), and Leland(Cindy).

He is preceded in death by his wife, Elaine Nelson; his parents; and his brothers, Gaylord Jr., Lavern, and Leonard.

A Celebration of Life was held from 2 to 5 pm on Saturday, August 15th, 2015, at St. Peters Lutheran Hall in Cassville. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Mike Nelson Memorial Fund.

Adam B. Nemitz

Adam B. Nemitz, age 27, of Lancaster, died as a result of an automobile accident on Saturday, March 29, 2008, in Beetown Township. He was born on August 12, 1980, in Lancaster, the son of Jeffrey and Mary Jo (Curtis) Nemitz. Adam graduated from Lancaster High School in 1999. He married Abbie J. Mueller on December 20, 2005, in Lancaster. He was employed as a Mine Supervisor for Pattison Brothers Sand Company in Clayton, IA. Adam was a loving father and son. He loved the outdoors. Adam enjoyed riding his four-wheeler, boating, skiing, snowmobiling, and hunting. His love for the outdoors and family gave him the opportunity to establish a forever lasting bond with his father, brothers, and countless family and friends. Adams time spent on his farmette with his son, Collin, and his faithful dog, Ruby, were his highest priorities. He will be dearly missed.

Survivors include his former wife, Abbie and their son, Collin of Cassville; his father, Jeff (Faith) Nemitz, Lancaster; his mother, Mary Jo Curtis, Clayton, IA; his brothers: Matt (Misty) Nemitz and Andy Nemitz both of Lancaster; a sister: Destinie Lepsch and her sons, Sydney and Logan Lepsch, all of Marion; his step-father, Don Goen, Appleton; grandmothers: Marilou Nemitz and Constance Reynolds, both of Lancaster; mother-in-law, Jenny (Ron Schara) Patton, MT; father-in-law, Kevin Mueller, AZ.

Adam was preceded in death by a son, Dylan James; grandparents, Ronald Nemitz, Delano Reynolds, Don and Flourence Curtis and life long friend, DJ Heiligenthal.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, April 2, 2008, at 10:30 a.m. at Schwartz Funeral Home in Lancaster with Rev. Mary Ann Floerke officiating. Burial was in Hurricane Cemetery, S. Lancaster Township. Friends called on Tuesday, April 1, 2008, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Schwartz Funeral Home in Lancaster and from 9:30 a.m. until time of services on Wednesday.

Joanne Neuendorf

Joanne E. Neuendorf passed away on January 26^, 2017 in Lancaster, Wisconsin, with her loved ones at her side. She was 87 years young. She was preceded in death by her husband, Martin, who passed away in 1975, and her grandson, Adame Martin Brunner in 2011.

Joanne is survived by her children: Shari (Greg) Brunner, Bill (Jann) and Curt and grandchildren Andrea Ege, Tavia Brunner, Hillary Hoffman, and honorary grandchildren Derek, Emily and Jessie Montgomery, four great-grandsons, special Sister Cleo Stenner, and many loving family members.

Joanne was born in Madison to Isa and August Schumann. She was an only child, and as a result, she was expected to do the work of a boy or a girl. When her parents owned a service station, she learned to do oil changes, rotate tires and pump gas. She drove a taxi cab in Madison while she was in college at the University of Wisconsin. Her plan was to become an interpreter for the UN, however her father, who paid the bill, insisted that she should become a teacher and stay closer to home. She married Martin Neuendorf on June 19, 1954, and she taught school in Belmont until she accompanied her husband to Milwaukee to attend Mortuary School, graduating with him but never obtaining her license. She taught adult evening classes for many years, tutored students for French and German, and drove school bus. She went back school when she was 55, all the while teaching Secondary Learning Disability students at Schullsburg. After attending classes at UW-Platteville and UW-Whitewater, she received her masters degree in education.

Joanne was very active in St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Burton, she was a member of the Blackhawk Council of the Boy Scouts of America, she was a member of the Potosi Public Schools School Board, she was a volunteer at Passage thru Time Museum, and at the National Brewery Museum in Potosi. She worked for many years at the polling station in Potosi for elections. She spent 3 summers cooking at Canyon Camp Boy Scout Camp.

She loved to read, write, garden and travel - she especially loved to drive. She will be remembered for her ready smile and sense of humor and she spoke with anyone she met whether she knew them or not.

No services are planned at this time, but rather, a Celebration of Life memorial will be held this summer in Potosi. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Grant County Food Pantry or St. Croix Hospice.

The family expresses their sincere appreciation for the care Joanne received from the staff at Orchard Manor Nursing Home and St. Croix Hospice. Thanks also, to the many people who stopped to visit her and make her days brighter.

Kimberly Nickel

Kimberly K. Nickel, age 54, of Beetown, passed away from cardiac complications on Friday, April 8, 2016, at Grant Regional Health Center, Lancaster. She was born on July 26, 1961, the daughter of Clinton and Judith (Gabel) Hutchcroft. Kim graduated from Lancaster High School in 1979. She worked various jobs throughout her life, Rapid Die & Molding in Cassville, Fendall of Platteville, and at Nosco in Gurney, IL. On August 28, 1997, she married Jeffrey P. Nickel. Kim's courage and determination as a breast cancer survivor was remarkable to us all. Her memory will live on in our hearts forever.

Survivors include her husband, Jeff; three sons: Jonathan (Heather) Marrone; Jered and Jake Nickel; two grandchildren: Trevor and Brooklyn Marrone; her mother, Judith (Frederick) Moon; sisters: Jacqueline (Greg) Block; Suzette (William) Waters; Robin (Kurt) Bohndorf; father and mother-in-law, Ralph (Diane) Nickel; siblings: Makila Small; Mitchell Moon; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and her fur baby, Lola.

She was preceded in death by her father, Clinton; and his parents, Ray (Hannah) Hutchcroft; maternal grandparents, Donald (Dorothy) Gabel; a step-son, Gregory White.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, April 13, 2016, at 11:30 a.m. at the Beetown Township Hall with Reverend Mark Hoehne officiating. Private family burial will be in the Beetown Cemetery, Beetown. Family and friends called on Tuesday, April 12, 2016, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Beetown Township Hall and on Wednesday from 10:30 a.m. until time of services. Verna Nickson

Verna C. Nickson, age 100, of Lancaster, passed away on Friday, June 6, 2014, at the Lancaster Care Center, Lancaster. She was born on June 27, 1913, in Platteville Township, the daughter of William and Elizabeth (Weigel) Johnsen. Verna attended Blockhouse Grade School and graduated from Platteville High School at the age of fifteen. She then went on to be a legal secretary with a law firm in Platteville and then came to Lancaster with the WPA in 1933. She was later employed by Attorney Frank Meyer who was the President of Union State Bank. Verna was employed at the bank for thirty-five years. On June 5, 1937, she was united in marriage to Edward J. Red Nickson. During retirement, Verna enjoyed spending time at home and with her husband. She also enjoyed bowling and ladies night out on Thursdays at the Lancaster Country Club. Verna was a fifty year member of the Lancaster Congregational Church and was an avid Green Bay Packer fan.

Survivors include her son, Phil (Donna) Nickson, Yakima, WA; two grandchildren: Crystal (Randy) Cruz, Puyallup, WA; Matthew (Angelica) Nickson, Rio Rancho, New Mexico; five great-grandchildren: Zoe and Lila Cruz, Faith, Edward, and Estrella Nickson; a step-great-granddaughter, Tasha Cruz; nieces and nephews: Patricia Kliebenstein, Donna Horne, Lois Jenz, Douglas Von Glahn and Dr. David E. Miller.

In addition to her parents, Verna was preceded in death by her husband and her siblings.

Funeral services were held on Monday, June 9, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at the Lancaster Congregational Church with Reverend Mark Dieter officiating. Burial was in Hillside Cemetery, Lancaster. Gwendolyn M. Nihles

Gwendolyn M. Nihles, age 77, of Lancaster, died on Friday, March 14, 2008, at Mercy Medical Center in Dubuque, IA. She was born on October 21, 1930, in Garnavello, IA, the daughter of Joseph and Monica (Winch) Berns. Gwen graduated from St. Clement Catholic High School in Bankston, IA, as Valedictorian. On June 21, 1955, she was united in marriage to Vernon H. Nihles at St. Clement Catholic Church in Bankston, IA. Together they farmed for many years in North Lancaster Township, moving to Lancaster in 1981. She was employed at the former D&D Store, Lancaster. Gwen was a member of St. Clement Catholic Church, Lancaster. She enjoyed reading, playing cards, and watching Wheel of Fortune.

Survivors include her five children: David (Julie) Nihles, Lancaster; Diane (Ken) Taylor, Spring Green; Cathy (Syver) Wilson, Eau Claire; Mary (Greg) Fischer, Lancaster; and Gary (Lisa Beck) Nihles, Lancaster; nine grandchildren: Bryan, Melissa, Loretta, Rachel Wilson, Michelle, Ryan, Andrea, Jacob Fischer, and Jason Nihles; her brother, Dick (Jane) Berns, Dubuque, IA; and sisters: Sr. Mary Andrea Berns, Rockford, IL; Rita Martin, Cedar Rapids, IA; and Bernelda Berns, Dubuque, IA.

In addition to her parents, Gwen was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon and a son, Steven.

Burial was in St. Clement Cemetery, rural Lancaster. Anna M. Nix

Anna M. Nix, age 89, of Lancaster, died on Saturday, March 12, 2011, at her residence in Lancaster. She was born on June 25, 1921, in Potosi, the daughter of F. Edward and Mary Ann (Schneider) Hoffman. On April 5, 1941, she was united in marriage to Robert Lee Nix in Potosi. Anna worked at Kamms Locker Plant and many years at Lancaster Memorial Hospital. She enjoyed her family first and foremost, and filled many hours reading and watching birds and squirrels.

Survivors include her children: Leon (Janet) Nix, Lancaster; Mary Ann (Robert) Ganfield, Cascade, IA; Loren (Connie) Nix, Terry (Nancy) Nix, all of Lancaster; Cinda (Mike) Furry, Platteville; eleven grandchildren: Eva (David) Sebesta, David (Amy Gotzinger) Nix, Barbara (Bronson) Cunningham, Betty (Jared) Tilleraas, Shane (Tara) Nix, Wyatt (Deb) Nix, Emily Nix, Jason (Michelle Lamore) Nix, Brandon (Emily) Nix, Amy (Kris) Kreul, Andy (Amy) Pennekamp; fourteen great-grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.

In addition to her parents, Anna was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lee, on December 10, 1977, one brother, Samuel, two sisters, Josephine Rux and Luella Olson, and a son-in-law, Roger Pennekamp.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, March 17, 2011, at 10:00 a.m. at the Lancaster United Methodist Church with Pastor Barbara Cook officiating. Burial was in Hillside Cemetery, Lancaster. Family and friends called on Wednesday, March 16, 2011, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Schwartz Funeral Home in Lancaster and on Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until time of services at the church.

Loren Nix

Loren D. Nix, age 70, of Lancaster, passed away at his home on April 24, 2016, after struggling with a long battle with MS. Loren was born on February 18, 1946, the son of Robert Lee and Anna Marie (Hoffman) Nix.

Loren graduated from Lancaster High School in 1964, and then spent a tour in the U.S. Army, serving in Vietnam. He was very proud of being a veteran, and was an active member of VFW Post #2344 and American Legion Post #109. Loren was married to Cathy Adrian in 1968. They had three children of which he was very proud of: Wyatt (Deby) Nix, Shane (Tara) Nix and Emily (Andy) Schneider. Loren was a proud grandpa of 5 grandchildren: Jared, Hunter, Mitchell, Madelyn & Alayna. He is also survived by two brothers, Leon (Janet) Nix and Terry (Nancy) Nix; and two sisters, Maryann (Bob) Ganfield and Cinda (Mike) Furry.

Loren worked at Dairyland Power Co-Op in Cassville. He then worked at John Deere in Dubuque until his retirement. He was then married to Connie Larson. Loren loved fishing, hunting, and was an avid carpenter. Even with his MS, he continued to guide other carpenters to build. Loren's other passion was to visit special relatives in Minnesota.

Loren leaves with us a deep affection for his fellow man. He believed in the Lord and accepted him as his savior. He had many friends, especially Keith Jerrett, who tells us Loren was a fun loving guy full of pranks to make people laugh. Another special friend and careworker was Lou Dahse, whom Loren made a big impact on her life.

A memorial visitation was held from 9:00 am to 11:00 am on Thursday, April 28, 2016, at Schwartz Funeral Home in Lancaster, immediately followed by graveside services with military honors at Hillside Cemetery, Lancaster.

In lieu of plants and flowers, a Loren D. Nix memorial fund has been established.

The family would like to thank the staff at Homecare Select, Grant County Hospice, the Lancaster Rescue Squad, his physician Erin Huebschman MD, for assisting Loren in his special times of need. God Bless all who helped Loren have a happy and comfortable life.
